Innovation award goes to Storm
The prestigious National Stormwater Industry Association Innovation Award goes to Storm in 2012
For a company like Storm that prides itself on its innovative approaches and projects, winning the Stormwater Industry Associations Award of Excellence for Innovation is a highly coveted prize.
For the second time in three years, Storm has won this prestigious award, reinforcing our position as industry leaders.
The award was conferred for the Storm Pesticide Model. Storm and project partners Ecos and Atura developed the model as a tool to plan and manage the sustainable application of pesticides on a golf course. However, the model is so effective and powerful, it can be used to plan for pesticide use in any situation, including agriculture.
The Storm Pesticide Model has a rainfall:runoff engine and it factors in pesticide decay rates to ensure ecosystem health or drinking water quality is protected.
Model developer Rod Wiese of Storm said ”A search for similar models yielded no results, and so we conclude that it is the first model of its type in the world, and it also has global application. It could be used in any river basin catchment as a planning or operational tool”.
Storm was also a finalist in another Award category, the Award of Excellence for Stormwater Strategic Planning and Concept Design for the Blue Mountains Business Park WSUD Strategy.
These Awards were announced at Stormwater 2012, the Stormwater Industry Association’s 2nd National Conference in Melbourne, October 15-19. The Awards ceremony was part of the conference dinner which Storm sponsored.
