Duke Street, Sunshine
Brimbank City Council engaged Storm to look at options to treat the road runoff from a section of Duke St, Sunshine which was undergoing a parking bay upgrade. The aim of the project was to passively water a row of proposed street trees in an effort to be water sensitive in their design. Having a limited budget, Council was looking for a low cost and low maintenance solution.
The final solution was a tiered infiltration “bioswale” without an underdrain which encourages water to infiltrate into the surrounding soil and water the trees. Although in a low permeability soil area, the low cost of the system allowed for the construction of a larger filter area. This significantly boosted water treatment and reduced the amount of runoff to the stormwater system. It also enabled the water to spread to all of the proposed trees which needed watering.
